Eharp 10 string tuning

Post by Jeffrey McFadden »

A member here recently introduced me to Eddie Alkire's pre-pedal-steel tuning for steel guitar, which he (Alkire) called Eharp tuning. (Thanks, Bill McCloskey.)
Next, I found an elderly Alkire Eharp Steel for sale here, and bought it. I'm waiting for it to get here, while also waiting for a 6 string pedal steel. Running off in all directions at once.
Anyway - while I wait, I've been playing with a spreadsheet of Eharp tuning. I've found 12 distinct chords, not counting both flavors of 7ths, at the "fret zero," no bar position.
The trick is that this is all done with unique grabs, while the pedal steel (particularly the full 10 or 12 string versions) accomplish this with relatively fewer different hand shapes / grabs, by changing tones through pedal and lever.
Anyway, if anyone is interested, here's a screenshot of what I've found so far, before even laying bar on fret.

To go with the above, here's a chart of notes available per fret.
It might be just me, but I find it interesting the patterns of naturals-heavy frets and accidentals-heavy frets.

It is an amazing tuning. I have all the Alkire Eharp lessons on a dropbox. If you send me your email address, I can add you if I haven't already. There are 50 unique chords in straight bar position on the Alkire tuning.

You've already added me. Besides the lessons I'm doing this because I seem to learn things better if I have to think them through myself.
And I don't have the guitar yet.
