A friend has a friend who is selling his Dad's stuff, & is trying to find out any info on this Gibson steel to pass along.
Stove in the background not included!
Any info appreciated. Thx, Pat
Pat, here's what AR Duchossoir's Gibson Electric Steel Guitars 1935 - 1967 has to say about your friend's guitar. It's a Gibson CG-520. 330 were shipped between 1956 and 1966. The serial number may reveal its year of production. There were minimal (if any) changes from year to year. It featured a patented construction with each keyhead, fretboard, pickup, and bridge mounted on a steel rectangular tube, and a cabinet of oak panels mounted to a mahogany cross-section for mounting the legs. Both necks are 24-3/4" scale, and feature three-octave fretboards. They sport the unique Seth Lover-designed 4-8-4 pickup with non-adjustable Alnico magnet slugs for polepieces. They feature both an audio cut-out button and a doo-wah button. Hope this helps.
Wow, thx Jack!
That's a whole lotta info and helps a lot. Any idea what tuning the necks are? My GUESS is C6 & A6 but that's just my "man on the street" guess. I was thinkin' also maybe an early E9 tuning.
Anyway, I really appreciate that info! Guitar histories are always amazing. I know that will help my buddy's friend!
Thx again, Pat
