I posted a non-pedal steel version of this song a couple of months ago. I thought it would be fun to also record a pedal steel version. The guitar is a 2006 Carter that I recently acquired. Thanks for watching. Cool

The Carter sounds pretty damn good, I guess you'll probably keep it. Very Happy

Yes Will, I'll be keeping this one. It's very comfortable to play. So now I have three pedals steels... Emmons p/p, Mullen G2, and Carter. I keep trying to thin the herd, but it's not working. I feel like Michael Corleone... every time I think I'm Out, they pull me back in again! Surprised

Hey Doug!

Top shelf... as usual! I like the base string manipulation for the melody. It is a nice contrast with the upper register playing that followed it.

We will get out to Northhampton this summer and hear you live, fo sure!

Hi Dan, glad you like the video.

Regarding the low octave melody: I've been playing a lot of that lately. It adds a different dimension to the tune and it holds the listener's interest. It works especially well in a song like "Take These Chains", which has only one section, repeated several times (same melody and chords).

As far as the gigs... I'm not playing for now. The band I was with for the past five years broke up in December and I've decided to take some time off from gigging. I'm enjoying the time off, still playing at home, making videos, not teaching anymore.
