Won't get it for a few weeks yet, but I'm excited to have purchased b0b Lee's Williams D12 Crossover. The only one in the world. Williams made 12 Crossovers in total but this was the only D12. It has been called the most complicated steel ever made. Here is a recent pic and some pics from the SGF archive when b0b picked it up.

43 pounds in the case. Extended E9th and C6th. Nice thing is that it is effectively a 10x10 in a 5x5 footprint.
Correction: 55 lbs in the case.

I'm particularly looking forward to only having to deal with 5 pedals. This should help bad feet and knees.

The blue ones are “rod splits” on 5 and 10, so Bb, B, C and C# are all in tune.
The red one on string 9 sets the feel stop on string 2. Then set string 9 lower on the string 9 split screw . |

This thing sounds AMAZING. Different pickups for C6 and E9th. Ergonomically, so much easier to play C6 without having to shift positions. Rings like a bell. So happy.

Interesting looking pickup on the E9th neck. It looks like it is split and each side is angled somewhat. What is the story on that?

The pickup on E9 is a hunbucker with adjustable pole pieces for each string. (think of it as similar to Telonics 84 and X10 series). You can adjust the brightness or growl as desired for each string. I don't remember the brand but it was a common pickup brand when this guitar was built. It may not be original from the factory.
Look up the Telonics 84 or X10 series instructions, to get an idea of how to adjust it. It's best to adjust it over time, not all at once. |
