I love the steel on this song, but I can't find any info on who the steel player is.

It's Weldon Myrick, from early 1970 and the "Silk Purse" album sessions. Some of the album was cut in L.A. and some in Nashville. Too bad they decided to fade the track at what sounds like the beginning of a Weldon solo.

And it's Weldon and Buddy Spicher together playing the "string" pads on "Long Long Time," which was the big hit from that album. Weldon's doing multiple passes with a fuzz-tone along with multiple Spicher parts for the sustained orchestral "strings," and then Spicher's doing the double-tracked violin fills and solo. They would sometimes jokingly refer to themselves in album credits as the "Goodlettsville String Quartet!"

Thank you for the info. Weldon was my first guess, but I never would have guessed those string parts. Amazing.

Would you know who played steel on this version of Love Has No Pride?

Such great sounding full instrumentation on the album cut...

Mr. Finney is correct, Weldon Myrick played steel on "Silk Purse".

Mr. Brown is also correct, Sneaky Pete Kleinow played steel on several tracks from "Don't Cry Now", with "Love Has No Pride" being one of them. That album also featured steel guitar by Buddy Emmons, Ed Black and Glenn Frey.
