The bass tuning on the front neck of the quad put him out of business.

On a related note: How many bass players does it take to change a light bulb?
...
It doesn't matter, the keyboard player can do it with his left hand.

Great find. The early 1960s were the last days of commercial art in advertising. Old National Geographic magazines are perfect chronology of the decline.

They could have just taken pictures, but they decided to have artists paint pictures.

Doug I bought a new Telecaster Bass a black one much like the one in your pictures played it many years sold it as it weighed the same as a Chevy engine block ..( six cylinder )...yep you are right little if any respect...didnt matter much then dont matter much now...
