I received my Master Model lap steel last week and thought some might want to hear it. The specs are in the video so I won't repeat them here.

I'm playing these samples through a Positive Grid Spark amp using a Ron Hogan pedal steel patch from the Positive Grid database.

The recording was made with a Panasonic HC0V180 Full HD video camera using the camera's internal mic. In other words, there was no audio edit to make it sound different than actual.

This is the third Bob Allen lap steel I've had. Every one of them was very well made - but this one has a very desirable sound thanks to the Rock Ash and the Steeltronics.

It's got a nice sound, wish I could see the whole guitar.

I think it sounds good too. Here's a full length photo.

Note that there is a fair sized gap between the bridge and the controls.

I asked Bob to build this on an extended blank. At the time I had the notion of adding a set of palm benders and wanted space to do so.

In the meantime, I borrowed a lap steel from a buddy that had palm benders on two strings. After fooling with it for a month, I've reconsidered. For the stuff I play on lap steel I found it hard to work with the levers - it seemed they were always in the way. I try to never say never, but right now I've shied away from palm blenders.

Thanks for the pic, that's a nice looking slab of wood.
