This piece was written for Violin and Piano by the French composer Maurice Ravel in the mid 1920s.
A fellow musician and friend of mine arranged this adaptation for pedal steel, upright bass, percussion, clarinet and guitar.

I played all the violin parts, as written, on E9.
It was recorded live off the floor.

There were some interesting pizzicato parts that I played with a palm muted approach.

Normally most of what I play on steel has an improvisational quality but this piece was arranged, top to bottom. It was a unique challenge.

It is interesting to me that Ravel was using some pretty progressive chord voicings and phrasing - sounds we take for granted now but were not so clichéd in the mid 20s when this piece was written.

This Ravel composition is commonly nicknamed 'Blues'.
Be forewarned - Some of it is pretty 'outside' sounding. Wink

Thanks Joe. Yes, it was a good push.
I listened to a ton of violin recordings of it to get the feel and phrasing right and memorized the score over several days.

I'm not the greatest at playing the same thing twice, so I had to really focus here in the arrangement and stick to what was written. Laughing
