I have been batteling mids for all the years I have played steels with or without pedals.
A few months ago I had my pickup switched at an electric guitar builder’s shop in Spain. And as we tried it he himself suggested that my complain was rooted in an “impedance mismatch”. Old threads and discussions about that term with Bill Lawrence and many others floated up to mind at once and I mentionned to him that there had been a “MatchBOX” at one time clamped to the leg of a great many PSG’ists, I understood were claimed to “match impedance”. As all this correctly suggests, I know NOTHING about electronics.

He suggested just to get a “clean” buffer-booster for guitars and showed me an example. I was jawdropped flat to the floor at once.
So I went ahead and ordered 6 different ones from Amazon to test and stayed with the cheapest and in my opinion best one:

Moskey DEC Buffer Booster

It sells for $22-29.oo on ebay or Amazon and it’s such a game changer, I bought a hand full of spates and gave one to a fellow SGF member and ling time PSG buddy and he’s hooked.

J D, I bet I can win that know NOTHING about electronics with you, and as proof I'll ask a couple questions.

How does this buffer differ from what's in the Telonic's Multi-Taper VP, OR
The Sarno Black Box?

Can't I just play with the Mid's on the amp controls.

Told you I'd win this contest Winking

BTW, could not find this on Amazon, but Walmart seems to carry it for 20.68

I’m in Europe right now. But I THINK that I have a BlackBOX waiting gor me at my Florida home.
Until comparing the units, all I ca say is that there seems to be a huge price difference. Evidently, the Mosky is a cheap China made unit. It may not be comparable. But so far, it’s been guving us the best sound improvement ever.
I would describe it as bringing clarity to the wound strings. It’s more lifely, for the lack of the better term, which allowed me to roll of the heighs without bein left we a wheel barrel full of thick fat sticky mud off the wound strings.
It helps generating a more “recorded” sound.
No negative side effects.

For the price of a 3min lap dance, found as uou say at ChinaMart… erm… I of course mean WALLmart, it’s a winner!

Its certainly cheap enough to give a try ... I've used a BB for several years, but recently stopped trying to hunt down something that may or may not have been there Embarassed

I tried a couple different versions of these from Amazon. Nothing overly impressive out of them. I ended up sticking with Goodrich 7a and Black boxes.

Looks good for those on a budget, who don't mind the 9v supply required. Looks like it steps from 1M ohm to 1k ohm, similar to a DI box, plus adds some clean boost.

Thanks for the post JD. I purchased the Moskey to compare it with my Lil’Izzy.(I got hooked on them years ago due to the portability/simplicity.). Looking forward to the comparison.
