1930s Vega 7 or 8 string

Anyone with any experience with a late 30s Vega. My main question is how are they for tuning as they just have wheels at the end of the headstock. Do they stay in tune and are they easy to tune.

Ah, the black and chrome consoles!

Those are actually conventional tuners with extensions soldered onto the shafts. They hold tuning as well as any other set of gears, and the broad diameter of the knob actually makes them easier to tune precisely.
