Well, I finally did it. Got rid of the old Sperzels on my Emmons SKH. After taking the strings off, here's basically what I had to do to install Grover 210C's.
1) Removed"carefully" nut shaft and rollers.
2) Remove Keyhead-(by removing 4 bolts from
underneath.)
3) Removed Sperzels-(Requires a 7/16" wrench.) Had to
wiggle them out; also, the pins actually stuck in
the keyhead. Pull them out.
4) Filled the old pin holes with small aluminum cones I
made from a "PSG parts" aluminum, Sho Bud,1/8" pull
rod. Super glued them and hammered them in tight.
(Had to do this because these old holes would be
visible. I then sanded them flush.)
5) Took measurements and made a maple templet that
would perfectly fit the Grovers. (Shaft hole was the
same as Sperzel but pin hole was not.) BTW, Grovers'
measurements can be found on their web
site. Nothing comes with the tuners.
6) Drill the pin holes.
7) I wanted this job to look great, so I set up my
buffing wheel and went to work.
 After shining it up, the old pin holes were just
about totally invisible.
9) I cleaned the deck where the keyhead sits. (Never
have a better time to do that.) Then I put
everything back together.
WAS IT WORTH THE TROUBLE? Yes, it was.
Special tools needed?
1)Drill press...2)Dial caliper...3)Buffing wheel
PS.I also had to grind the string shafts on 5 and 6 about .060" shorter.
The hardest part was not having a steel to play for
about a week. Here's some picture's. Have fun.

Great job! I did the same thing to my Zum. The 18:1 Grovers are much easier to tune. Sperzels were 12:1. Plus, the gear mechanism is much smoother on the Grovers. I currently own two MSA's which were orginally 12:1 Grovers. I replace one of the guitars with new 18:1 Grovers.

excellent work !  Filling the Sperzel pin holes and drilling the new Grover pin holes is the ticket. Q : Were the Sperzel shaft hole sizes the same for the 210's ? When I pulled the Sperzels off of my 1983 P Pull, the shaft hole sizes were not the same as the Grover 210's.

Impressive. Are the Grovers a better tuner or were the Sperzels just worn out?

Tony, yes the same size. .390 or 25/64ths.
Ian, they weren't wore out. They were just hard to turn for my old arthritic hands. I had taken them apart and re-greased them all but still too hard. The turning ratios on the Sperz were, I believe, 12/1. On the Grovs, 14/1. Not a big issue there.
