Roy was a friend of mine for many years. I was fortunate enough to be in a band with him and was blessed to learn so much from him. He was a kind and gentle man who always had something nice to say to you. I never heard him speak ill of anyone for all the years that I knew him. I was also present when he was first introduced to the steel guitar world. Terry Simpson our bandmate owned A&S Music in Nederland, Texas and had booked Herby Wallace to do a seminar at his store. Terry put together a backing band of local musicians in which Roy was the keyboard player. Herby fell in love with Roy's playing and invited him to play with him on the Dallas Steel Show and at the ISGC in St. Louis. The rest is steel guitar history. Roy was also instrumental in helping get the SWSGA show in Arizona started. The steel guitar world owes Roy a debt of gratitude for helping bring recognition to our instrument. Barbara was his rock and greatest fan. She is a class act and a solid supporter of the steel guitar community. May Roy rest in peace and may God bring comfort to Barbara and the family. I will miss Roy so much.

I was blessed to have played with Roy on the steel guitar show stages as well as a few local music shows in East TX. A true gentleman and professional in every sense of the word.

My deepest condolences to Barbara and the entire family.

Roy always provided encouragement to me as well as many other steel players as we attended and played the steel shows. In addition to his exceptional musical talent, he had a successful 35+ year career in business with Dupont. His obitutary suggests that donations can be made in his memory to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, which you can do online or by mail. RIP Roy.

This is heartbreaking news!

Roy was such a talented guy, a real legend and probably the nicest guy that you could ever hope to meet.

My family and I always enjoyed his playing at Baxter Springs. What a huge loss!

It has since been torn down a few years back!

This is really heart breaking news. He was everyones piano player and as much to the steel guitar community as any steel player out there. Prayers for the family.

With the Dallas show coming up soon, I'm reminded of how much I always looked forward to hearing him play, and getting to hang & chat a bit with him.
His absence is still acutely felt at the show, and will be for long time.
God bless Roy, and Barbara...
