Has anyone tried this amp for steel. They have a number of different power ratings in the lineup and are reasonably priced.

These are new on the market. Just saw a video yesterday testing out the 60w model and it looks promising. They claim to use a guitar speaker and not the typical PA style used in modeling amps. That could be good or bad for pedal steel. I use a line 6 pod xt pro and the HD bean with a steel. Not the best tone in the modeling department but the effects are good. I believe this amp is in response to the Boss Katana as a versatile user amp with effects. I have a 100w Katana and it's OK but I have better rigs.

I’m using a Nashville 112 but being older (almost 80) I’m looking for something light and the Katana 100s are almost impossible to buy new. I had a 50 and liked it pretty well but I got a deal on the 112 and sold the 50.

The 112 is a fine amp for pedal steel. The Katana is no match for that but it is lighter. I bought mine used and I see them on Reverb.com or Guitar Center for sale often. Quilter makes a fine amp and so does a few others that are lighter and work for steel. Not to say that the Catalyst may be a fine amp. It may be one you have to program or use software and a laptop to tweak. Time will tell.

The Catalyst uses software somewhat similar to the Katana that has to be controlled with a tablet or laptop.

Charlie, I suspected as much. Line 6 has done well with their software and updated support. Unlike Fender with the Mustang 3 v2 where they dropped it altogether. That's always a worry with modern equipment. I have that Mustang and you can use the onboard controls to set it up but it's not as easy as the software. I can name a number of pieces I own that are no longer supported. My Lexicon, Johnson J Station and a TC Electronics rack unit. It's a non issue if you can get the tones you're after from the unit and without hours of tweaks. I see posts about the Kemper and AxeFx where they rave on it's capabilities but spend hours getting there. Just my observations.

Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes. Surely someone will try one. Thanks for your comments. I don't think the Line 6 software is as extensive as the Boss Katana.

IMHO....I don't care what amp I try I am always having to tweek to get a tone close to what I THINK I want.
I don't (and this is my opinion only) believe you can say one amp is better than another of equal value. I have tried a few, in my time, but always settled on the one that I didn't need to tweek as much. That only lasts for a short while and then it's tweek time for me again.

If the line 6 works out for you, then have fun....At present I am using Roland amps for regular guitar and a Peavy Bandit for my steel and thinking of the Katana MK2 (100) for the steel. Guess i need to tweek some more.

I had a Katana 50 and I liked it but I got a deal on the112 so I sold the Katana. I think I’m leaning toward theCatalyst because the Katana has a lot of stuff that I’ll never use and the Catalyst has a guitar speaker as opposed to PA speaker in the Katana.

Charlie,
I will be going to Sweetwater in Indiana in a couple of weeks to try out amplifiers. I'll keep your comments in mind.

Thanks for the info.

FYI: Topic recently resurrected from March 2022.

That said, here is a review from earlier this year.
It is 6 string oriented.
At around the 10:00 mark he compares them to the Katana.
