| XR-16 and 710 are identical looking so I can't tell which it is but it's one of those two. |

Probably a 710. I've had several 710s, and they all had 2 wires. I've had 2 XR-16s,and they both had 3 wires with one being red and able to be wired to a switch to change it from humbucker to single coil, like I did on a Mullen I had and have on the E9 neck of my Carter.

I've heard that were some, but all 8 I have owned, some brand new, only had a black and white wire. I think you had to order the split coil option for the third wire, which was usually red.

I bought and subsequently sold a XR16 that only had two wires. One black, one white.
I was always under the impression that the XR16 was a heavier wound pickup than the 710. MR. Bill always said that DC resistance could vary a lot and he used inductance, henries etc. measurements to build his pickups.
If it doesn't have a marked label on it with the model #, it may be hard to identify it.

I have BL-710 on my Emmons LG-2 and they measure with my Ohms Meter 18.8 / 19.0.
this pickup in the picture measures 29.3 Ohms
So would there be that much in the BL-710's or maybe a special order ?? |

I certainly wouldn't expect to see that big a variance. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say from what I have read here the pickup in question must be an XR16.
I'm playing a Carter that I know has an XR16 but it's not where I am right now else I would measure it for comparison. |

Larry, whatever you do don’t put a 705 on the guitar…I put on on a 1968 push pull guitar and it killed the sound and tone of the guitar and immediately switched it back….the 710 or XR16 will probably work much better!…I know you are a PP guy….I have talk to you before at the INSGC. And I remember you telling me how much you loved PP guitars!…

| Larry, I was able to measure the DC resistance on that XR16 in the Carter guitar. It measures about 30.5K ohms. Hope this helps you i.d. your pickup. |
