I've been offered an eight string Fender 400 PSG, in need of some TLC. All the parts are there, and I'd only be using it for home recreation when I need a break from lap, reso and b***o. The selling price is €450, which is not far off $450.
I just can't decide if it's a good idea. I don't want to be stuck with it if it doesn't suit me, but I don't want to miss a bargain. All advice appreciated!

Tony for 450.00 how can you go wrong if you use it for a while. You can always sell it and get you money back. I mean if it's all there and works I don't see how you could go wrong with what they are selling for now this is just my take on it good luck.

that seems like a good buy. many people are interested in dabbling in pedal steel and a guitar like the one you are describing will always find a home if you decide to part with it.

As unwarranted as I feel it is Fender pedal steels like that are getting really expensive so that’s a bargain. I have played Fenders and I love them but the money is getting stupid.

At that price I would be surprised if its still available,.. You need to grab it NOW if it hasn't sold.. Then get it running, play it as long as you care to and when you sell it in a few years, you'll see at least double what you paid, maybe triple...

Its a great 8 string console guitar that commands respect even without the pedals. And if the pedals can still be revived... so much the better..

While waiting for a reply, I found a pic and question I'd asked a while back...it showed a replacement pick-up had been fitted, involving some minor routing of the body to fit it.
Would this mod have an impact on the guitar's value?

It would to me. I've had a mid 60's (or later?) sunburst 400 since 2017 and that factory stock Jaguar pickup is a huge part of it's magic Winking

That said, for the great price you're getting it for I wouldn't let that stop you!
