Length is only one measurement on a nylon tuning nut you need. You also must have the rod size or make of guitar to get the proper size.
There is 3 sizes of rods used in steel guitars I know of. 3/32=.093, 7/64=.109 or 1/8=.125. The first number is fractional size, The second is thousands of an inch if measuring with a dial caliper or micrometer.
Turn the steel over and make sure all rods are same size, If something was added may be different size rods used.
Good Luck and Happy Steelin. |

I checked the web site above, They only list one hole diameter for 3/32= .093 rod.
Check the rod size your guitar has. If you try to put a smaller tuning nut on a larger rod. It could split and be ruined, Or It could go on crooked and rub on other tuning nuts, Be hard to get tuning wrench on.
The hole diameter in a tuning nut is a important measurement needed to order tuning nuts, Or make of guitar and hope they have a list to fit them properly. Good Luck and Happy Steelin.

I order mine from the online McMaster-Carr catalog; look up "stand offs." The varying-length nylon tuning nuts used in PSG construction are nylon circuit board stand-offs. They can be bought in many sizes, threaded or unthreaded, but I would recommend buying the unthreaded ones, because they will not slip and de-tune your guitar. Those that I bought for my SKH Emmons Le Grande rods also do well on my GFI's that employ a slightly smaller diameter rod. I have had no problems with splitting or breakage. If you have an odd-sized length, they also have nylon spacers available in various dimensions. Some manufacturers use(d) the spacers to cover threads and prevent binding at the end of the changer fingers. _________________ Emmons LeGrande D-10

That link is to a #3 nut. They list #4 (.109) and #5 (.125) as well. If you have the .109 rods for a shobud with rolled on threads, you need a #5 nut even though the rods are .109. Rolled on threads are larger major diameter than cut threads... _________________ '81 Sho-bud LDG, 2 EMCI's |

Probably enough info in the answers to fix the problem, but......
The OP did not give any clue as to what make/model guitar he has. |

I’m in the same boat….seems like metal spacers and short nylon washers are the current option |

Rod diameter, rod size, brand of guitar ,cut threads, rolled threads, on and on , bottom line is just go by the diameter of the threaded area. Does simply using the diameter of the threaded area of the rod render the other specifications not necessary as far as the selection of a nut with the correct hole size is concerned ? If this rant toward simplification makes any sense then somebody please tell me or correct my line of thought. |

Larry, I think you're probably right. I've been caught out by cut v. rolled threads. The actual diameter of the threaded portion is all that matters. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

How many 3/16" X 1 3/4" Nylon nuts Do you need? May be able to help with a few. (They are cut blanks, Need Rod Size to drill holes.)

New tuning nuts are generally blank on the threaded end, the rod will cut the thread into the nylon, they will be tight, running them in and out a half dozen times with an electric screwdriver with a socket attachment, is far less taxing. |

You can buy the smallest size, and then drill them out to whatever size is required. Just stick them in a nut-spinner, and open the hole with an electric drill and a bit of whatever size you need |
