I need to replace my tuning pegs for my early 90’s BMI. I can’t remember which ones it has on it now, can I just use Grover tuning pegs? They have a set on Amazon I found that would ship soon.

I also need to replace the return springs, I imagine those I can just get at a hardware store and put a hook on the ends?

Thank you,
Cody

Cody, I don't know on the tuners, but you likely won't find proper springs at the hardware store. BMI is your best option. I did get springs from McMaster Carr but it requires careful measurements and tension requirements.

Check the make of tuning pegs and replace with the same brand if possible. If you change brands new holes may have to be drilled for the small lock screws or lock pins on back of gear housing.

Grover has changed some keys from 3/8" to 10mm on the housing shaft that goes through the key head.
You may have to remove the key heads from the guitar.
A drill press with vice is great to have.

I have been there. Changed the keys on a 1970's MSA. Had to remove the key heads and drill out key holes to the new shaft diameter. Lot more work than planned.

Good Luck on this project.

I had this very issue... I ended up calling Grover, talked to a guy who knew exactly what my problem was and how to fix it. He sent me replacements and they went right in. I also looked for springs to no avail; ended up calling BMI. They wanted a check in the amount of $under two dollars and the associated 3 week wait for shipping/check clearing I said No Thanks and sold the guitar. The springs didn't really make much difference on my BMI anyway.
