I got hired to play pedal steel, Tele, and ukulele on this excellently arranged album, Winter Awhile, by Portland pianist and arranger Robert Hicks.

I play steel and Tele on track 5, Winter Awhile (vocal), and steel and uke on track 11, Holiday Hula. I’m not really a Hawaiian style player but did my best…

Thanks, Steve!

It was fun - although I showed up with the wrong shoes (they were slightly wide) and that made me sweat, they were so into the sound of the steel it made me feel relaxed. And then I got to play Tele for rhythm and lead, and that made it fine..

The next one is my very first ukulele cut ever….

Christopher,

I totally love this recording, such a bright spot leading up to my favorite season.

Your steel playing on 'Holy Holly Holiday Hula' was great, loved the Uke as well.

Robert is a great talent as well, and I'm glad to see you got to shine on a few songs.

Happy Thanksgiving and have a Merry Christmas season!

Thank you, Craig!

A terrific album - Robert’s arranging skills are tremendous, and he went all out here for sure!

Oh, John, you know how to get to me… anytime I play I hope that he’d be proud, probably sounds silly but it’s hard wired into my heart.

I appreciate you taking the time to listen - you’ve been supportive right from the start of my steel journey, and your opinion matters to me.

Thank you!

Thanks, Dale!

MSA, Telonics, and Lexicon - perfect for my taste. The engineer miked the cabinet and took a line out from amp, let me use my settings and didn’t touch anything else. That makes me happy!

Wow, is this ever great! Phenomenal arranging, playing and production! And, of course, great playing, Christopher. Definitely the hippest Christmas album I have ever heard, bar none. Yes, Reece would indeed be proud of you and is smiling atcha from somewhere out there. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks Jimbeaux!

Isn’t the arranging out of this world? Robert did all of that, including strings and horns - so well done.

I lucked out because Robert heard some tracks I’d done for a latin jazz recording, then came to hear my quartet - when we did that Iron Butterfly/Coltrane thing I do, he was ecstatic…. When I went into the studio, the vibe was so respectful and “how amazing that sounds! Do a couple more for fun”, which is pretty rare - made me feel comfortable, and I didn’t try to get too fancy. Plus I got to play guitar and uke, which I’d never played.

Thank you for listening - I was hoping you’d check it out, having had to listen to me fumble for so long (still do, mostly, haha)
