Hello all- first post!
So I come from mandolin and acoustic guitar and was thinking about getting a lap steel. I would spend most of the time trying to play slow blues as well as possible play fills in church as well as playing fills for another guitarist I sometimes jam with. Would a lap steel fit this bill or maybe a Weissenborn? What tunings would be best? Personally I like open D, could that be a catch all tuning? I assume there are probaly patterns that would work in each key? Thanks for any guidance!

For what you want, open D or Open G would be fine. If you are going acoustic, I'd go with a dobro over a weissenborn simply because a dobro is louder unamplified. If you want to go the electric route, consider C6 as well.
