I seem to recall the Big E speaking of 'leaving the wound strings on for ever, but changing the plains frequently...'
As I'm no longer earning from music (and certainly not getting any strings for nothing!) I do find myself figuring the cost. As I said earlier, I do have quite a few here but they won't be 'good' for ever.
In any case, when I do go to a 12-string D-13th, I'm going to be short some low-end strings. This 'fixed income' lark isn't funny.
Further to Dave's comprehensive replies here, I don't think I've encountered a brand I didn't like, not on steel, anyway. I do prefer nickel for what I hear as 'warmth'; aside from that, no preference, but the cheaper the better now! |
