Sure, everybody pops a third string on the E9 neck eventually; the second and fourth strings get a good workout and are liable to go every so often, also.
But what's the fattest string that ever broke on you?
My 10th string (.038w) just unraveled on me down by the changer - something that hasn't happened in a long time. I've owned a couple of D-10's over the years and I can't recall ever popping one of them fat lower strings on the C6 neck. Can't imagine the pain they could inflict if they snap with the velocity of the high G#! |

| I've had an .036 or .038 give it up on me enough times. But always unraveling at the changer. Never actually breaking. |

I had the 10th string on my C6 neck break on a gig once. The winding broke at the changer.

I had a E9th 10 string (B) break one time. It was past my usual string change time so it was telling me something.
That was one wound string in 40 years.

| I had a 10th string to break on an MSA S10 1 time. The center core broke at the changer finger, The winding just just opened like a spring. |

| I broke 2 38 B strings on mine in a row. I have no idea other than bad strings. Haven't broken one since. I think it was on my Stage one S10. |

| I've broken the 10th quite a few times, but I think that's because I play more in the lower ranges than most players, and I because sometimes use a very aggressive attack. |

A couple weeks ago The Army Band held a 100th anniv. concert in DC. I played tuba in a couple of ensembles but also a short feature of our country group where I play steel.
After all the rehearsals and show, the very next day I put it together at home I snapped the 8th E string right away.
I considered myself extremely lucky. I've never broken a big string before. |
