As quite of few of you have listened to my country licks and tricks, I thought I'd try and promote my non-country licks and tricks, just to see if I get the same tsunami of 'likes' (Ha!!)

Here's another one of the seven I posted up on Youtube the other day...one of my personal favourites.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGbb2JKMrwQ

Enjoy (if you can)!

I like it a lot. I love to see and hear musicians break out of the mold, while still respecting their instrument, and you did that brilliantly.

Thanks Allan.

That's the first time someone has ever mentioned the fact that (in spite of all my slightly odd excursions) I totally respect the sound and the history of the steel guitar, as well as the many truly great players out there both here and gone (many of whom would hate what I do...but I forgive them).

And thanks for your support, I need it!

Gary

You are a steel guitar explorer. I hope that doesn’t sound patronizing. I don’t mean that it sounds like you’re just looking for something in your music. You seem to go off somewhere very few players would dare to go and actually find something valuable and worth playing and listening to, like a musical Captain Kirk. All without hopping around on pedals and levers. Very enjoyable and very inspiring.

Thanks Fred, I really appreciate your comments and certainly do my best doing pretty much what you describe. Strange, I was never much of a Star Trek fan!

... yet another engaging track, Gary.
Are you just improvising, or do you have some direction in mind when you do videos like this?
As Lester 'Roadhog' Moran said, 'mighty fine, mighty fine'.

I am improvising. Usually, although often not, I have a few new discoveries I have been playing around with as a starting point. I then kind of practise them for a while and then start improvising. Obviously, I do this every day, it is my mode of practising, only very occasionally can I be bothered to set the camera up and film it. Usually I don't much like what I see. When I do (sufficiently) I keep it and post it up.

Not much of a life really is it?

Cheers Dan as always.

What’s your frame of reference? Most people try to do whatever they can get away with just to get by. Your life probably looks like heaven to many of them. Give yourself some credit, especially from a musical perspective.

Thanks Fred, you're a brick (not sure if that's an exclusively UK expression, but it's not an insult believe me!!). Actually, and as always, I was being a bit ironic (actually I've written a whole book on irony in my other life), although I'm not sure I've achieved the heavenly quite yet!! My main regret is the lack of opportunity to play with others live, where I can put all of this work to some use...now that would be heavenly!

Thanks again for listening/watching

Gary
