Found in a guitar shop today. 1962 Special. Purchased from the widow of a 90 year old who got it new in 62. Original case in excellent condition and the period correct stand. Sounds great.

Like from a time capsule. Cool!
Were the Special models short-scale steels?

Are you sure about that date? The Special was last catalogued in 1956. Sometimes instruments trickled out a year or two after being discontinued, but six years would be unusual.

It’s heavy, stable and well made. It has wooden feet, felt pads and synthetic rubber stops. You can sit or stand.

That's a very desirable Supro pickup with individual height screws for each string. There are all sorts of good arguments for keeping it just the way it is. But I'd be somewhat tempted to add a second control knob (tone) and replace the phone cord with a 1/4" female jack, like some of the more deluxe Supro and Airline guitars from that era.

I removed the pickup and cord assembly. Everything looks fine. I added a cord stop in the way of a zip-tie and reassembled it. The pole pieces work perfectly to even out the new string dynamics. C6. The 4 screws that fastened the pickup and plate were stripped so I got longer brass screws from the store today and carefully anchored the plate to the wood. The tuners are new replacement. A the end of the day it’s an answer to a prayer.
