That was great, he always looked like he was having so much fun, and it was effortless, I guess that's the way it looks when you're at his skill level _________________ Regards, Craig

That's BE for you! |
AND not a pedal or lever touched during the solo!
Even Decades later, BE just never ceases to amaze!

Websters definition of SMOOTH: 1) To hit every string perfectly. 2) See: Buddy Emmons
Ok, it doesn’t say that but….it ought too! |

This solo around 3:30ish reminds me of the Roger Miller solo on Hee Haw. Sounds like no pedals to me,amazing!

I used to sit and watch my Dad play through whole songs backing a singer on Cth and never touch a pedal. It was amazing to hear the things that came out of his amp when he did this. Those guys were playing Cth before there were pedals, so they didn’t really need them. |

They played STEEL GUITAR... some with pedals hanging out from them.
This is why those who run into Steel "out of nowhere" right into E9th often just desperately dance on them peddles hoping to find a way to make the make music.
BE's approach to C6th single note improv. was declaredly "non-pedal" with some occasional C-to-B lever or some extended P7 down to "invert" the tuning (playing M7/9 out of the 7th string rooted Major6th like 7 frets higher out of the 9th string M7 position.
One of the players that completely differed in approach was Hal Rugg, who used pedals and levers extensively in his single note improvs on C6th... although I am certain, he could have reeled off his solos without changes too.
The cool thing about C6th is, that in contrast to E9th, it can be played quite extensively without pedals. Maurice Anderson... coming from 12U proved the point even in his chord vocabulary when he went non-pedal in the later phase of his career. It's in my opinion easier to learn on a fixed tuning.
E9th in contrast, is, unless one is Jerry Byrd, a tuning which almost requires to play with pedals from the very beginning.

I have always loved the C6 power chord sound such as Curly. But
a seamless non pedal solo on 6th tuning is a beautiful thing for sure. wish I had studied that back neck and not just used it to rest my arms! |
