A 1938 Gibson EH-150 7 String Lap Steel Guitar W/OHSC has just popped up on eBay. I know nothing about the value of Gibson lap steels.
I've been thinking about a 7 string lap steel for awhile now.
The asking price is $2,000 which I assume is way high. What would be a fair price for this Gibson EH-150?
In terms of a 7 string lap steel, what would be a good alternative to this Gibson?

If you can find a suitable donor body, you could do a 7-string conversion. I found this beat-up basketcase early- to mid-'50s Gibson Ultratone carcass:
And parlayed it into a well-patinaed, fully-functional, great-sounding, great-playing 7-string for a fraction of the cost of a typical EH-150:

| Lap steel prices have gotten pretty ridiculous lately, I don't know who's buying them. That's a Charley Christian pickup 150 right? 2000.00 seems about right if it is. I saw a Fender Champion for $3000.00 the other day.😁👍 |

That's a fact.
There's a BR-9 listed for $4,500.00 on Reverb as I type. Not long ago one would be able to score a dozen of 'em or more for that price.

Seven string is wonderful! I mostly play a C6th (high e) with a bottom string that I move between A and Bb.
I think you should get a custom builder to make you one. I love my Clinesmith Frypan and would give up any vintage instrument to keep it.
There are people with great reputations making more economical instruments, too. |

I looked at Clinesmith. They look fantastic. The downside is the price. I would have to sell a couple of guitars.
The upside is I am only one lotto ticket away from getting one
