After several months of self-reflection I have relinquished my position with Tracy Byrd. It has been a great experience as a Byrd Dawg.
I believe that, at this point in life, it’s more important to begin my retirement years spending time with my family, traveling, and taking advantage of our good health.

I understand and respect you for your decision. The playing is fun, but all the other stuff gets old. Some people don't understand how there sometimes comes a time when you've just had enough of something, and you need a change. Good luck and enjoy.

Rick,
For me it’s all about being blessed with the opportunity to retire, be in good health, and spend my time with my family while our health is not a negative issue. I’ve talked with several people including retirement planners and doctors, and two common problems seem to surface. One is the cost of health insurance and the other is health issues. We are grateful not to have those problems so we’re taking advantage of our situation.
There are issues with touring; the most significant being the time requirements. My runway is not as long as it used to be so I made a life choice.

Marty, it’s a rare musician who can walk away from touring/gigging like you stated. Very very wise decision to enjoy life while you can get the most out of it. You won’t regret it.
