Prospective bidders should note that this guitar is missing the 4 legs and the 4 chrome bridge covers, and it has a non-original case.
<font size=-2>... hmmm... I've got all of those parts

Talk about someone being surprised, look at this...

A Rick bakelite that the guy is starting bids at $1500. Wishful thinking? I would say so. He's also selling a Gibson Ultratone also starting at $1500
Remember... just because a guitar is old, it doesn't mean that it's worth millions.

About the seller of the quad... I exchanged several emails with him. He is not a steel player. The quad belonged to his father. I told him to expect a very high winning bid. He told me "I think I'm going to use the money to buy something that reminds me of my dad. I'd give it all up to have just one hour back with him." I was pretty impressed with that.

Try to figure this one out:
This Rick: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=879729666&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1023585831&indexURL=0&rd=1
and this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=880549952
are currently bidding within a few dollars of each other. It will be interesting to see if it turns out that way.
(And I couldn't help but notice that the one with all the pick marks, and the one "that David Lindley might buy", are both being sold by people who are apparently new to eBay. Not to disparage eBay newbies, but I would think long and hard before I sent $500+ -- not to mention $1,500 -- to someone with no track record.)

That first one you listed is a 50's model with the "flip top" tuner cover removed (string thru body BUT 1 1/4" mags with frame and screw on bridge).
Whats that latin term for "Buyer Beware" ?
That 30's one is a T logo from the mid-late 40's .I have one like it ... I think they are under-rated ... this one looks real nice.
At the bottom of the page the seller admits to not knowin' the age.
Ebay still has some very good deals though ...if you do your homework.

Thanks JD !!!
I just finished my "Ricky buyin' spree" with some real treasures at VERY GOOD prices.
A "wartime" with broken plastic plates and a "pre-war" with a missing tuner.
Both were from the Aloha Conservatory of Music in Detroit (they included the original reciept). They both probably sat in their cases for 50+ years. Both came from ladies who sell antiques and the like ....
At first glance they looked "damaged" but those "problems" were quickly remedied and it seems that their "non-mint" condition kept away the collectors. But when I opened the box ... holy %$*& .. no rust, no dings ... and the mags and bobbin were perfect ... didn't need Jason Lollar for these.
