Well here’s Ricky Davis and Lloyd Green; Recording on the Same Song; 8 years apart. Mine is from CD "Live in London" 2002; and Lloyd's is CD "Carryin On" from 2010. Lloyd just emailed me and called us: “Siamese Steelers” LOL love it>
The song is “Heart of Stone”

WOW....amazing
♥♠♦♣
The "Carryin On" CD by Dale Watson was recorded 8 years after I left the band and Lloyd never heard my recording of it. Dale did this whole album with some of the great musicians of the "Little Darlin" recording days>
Lloyd Green "Pedal Steel Guitar"
Pete Wade "All Guitars"
Pig Robbins "Piano"...

Thanks Joe.
So Sorry John; The videos might be on different YouTube version?? I didn't put them up on Youtube.
If you go to your YouTube...try typing in:
"Dale Watson Live in London" and search for "Heart of Stone" and "How to Break Your Own Heart" and do the same kind of search for "Dale Watson Carryin On" and those two songs.
Good luck.
Ricky

Nice to hear different approaches to the same piece and both cuts are really enjoyable. I like how you started off the solo in octaves then went to sustained single notes that overlap one another… nice touch.

Ricky, how you get a better endorsement than that, I don't know?

Thanks Ray and Dale.
Yes that is something my Mentor, Lloyd, has always encouraged me to do; was to play what I hear and I feel, then it will be created in your own dynamic way. That is what me and Lloyd did; as we recorded on songs that neither of us ever heard and we both created our own musical dynamics; and that's what captures the similarity; is why he called us> “Siamese Steelers”.
We both were captivated; as neither of us heard these songs since we recorded on them, back in time.

You're doing what you feel and your own thing Ricky and it sounds great as always but it's hard to play without Lloyd's sounds creeping in. His music is such an overwhelming influence on a lot of players including me. Hmm... if I could only play just like Lloyd and better than that come up with all the incredible parts like he does. For the last year I've made me a collection of 30 Faron Young songs with Lloyd on steel and it never ceases to amaze me on just the little fills he did in between the words. It was all just perfect. I don't think there's anything wrong with sounding like Lloyd. It obviously worked decades for him. A true master of the pedal steel guitar. Keep getting your inspiration from your friend Lloyd. He's the player you want to be like. Thanks for sharing all your great music! Keep em' comin'!

Thanks so much David; that is such a great assessment of Lloyd. And that's what he has always encouraged me to do. He always encourages me to be my own voice in the conversation of music. He puts it that way; as everyone in the recording is having a conversation and you've got to be "understood" but with your own words(music) from yourself. Yes I wear my influence of Lloyd on my sleeve for sure; but every time I play something from him he always says: "Ricky; that has already been played; I want to hear from YOU; I want to hear what you feel in that song conversation"
