To complete a 1954 Gibson Century-6 rescue, I'm searching for the replacement decorative knurled thumb nut and hairpin clip that secures the fingerrest (pickup & bridge cover) on several models of 1950s Gibson lap steels (Century, Royaltone, Ultratone). Also used to secure the peghead cover on the Ultratone and Century Deluxe.

Here are photos of the nut & clip on the fingerrest from a 1957 Ultratone:

Like a needle in a haystack, no doubt.

Help! Anyone? Please check your parts drawers. Since the original Gibson Plexiglas covers were so fragile, many were broken and pitched in the dustbin. There's gotta be a few stray thumbnuts floating around out there.

I always think "antique lamp parts" when I see something like that. Have you looked into that? Scroll down to the bottom of this:

Thanks for the tip, Jon. I contacted Antique Lamp Supply, and they had some stuff that was close, but no cigar.

I wouldn't have taken the idea seriously myself except for the possibility, just maybe, that they used off-the-shelf parts.

Well, fortunately I finally found one. And unfortunately, it was seriously spendy. Fortunately, the entire fingerrest was included in the deal.
