thank for the info! I reached out to Ted and he sent me some of the original literature on tuning. I'd put it up here, but I'm not sure if that's ok with him.

Hey, Ryan -- you can probably just reach out to "Melobar Ted" Smith, whose dad invented the Melobar. Ted ran the company and built the instruments for many years, and he's a nice guy, too. melobarted@gmail.com

Thank you! he sent me some info on the original tuning for it...broke 2 strings, but I guess it is what it is! ...

All good, it actually was an interesting tuning with the ability to play 7ths 4ths etc with few moves of the bar but remember it was for a chording instrument and a joint venture Dad had with Roy Clark using Roy's big note song books...the inside strings were looked at like a keyboard...if you're not confused you're a better man than I am Smile
