There are a whole bunch of new players, as well as new to the Forum long-time players.

This is a great lesson from Paul Franklin.

Again, thank you Paul for sharing this!!

Am I glad this thread floated up from the depths of 2010...

Was wondering how to lift the bar off the strings when playing open?

Is there a way to grip the bar or a way to hold it?

Has to happen pretty fast.

Is this also an issue with bar size to be able to grip the bar to lift it off the strings?

I have a 7/8" bar and find it difficult to do the bar off move without making string noise or dropping the bar.

Exercises for this?

Bump for newer players that may not be familiar with this great drill.

Guess practice is the best medicine for sloppy bar movements.

I've noticed that the more I hold that bar, the more control I'm getting to keep the connect/disconnect noise down to zip.

Lots of new players lately, it seems. I like to bump this up every couple years. I've printed the lesson out for a couple friends who don't use the computer much. This will always be a great exercise!

Thanks for the reminder of this exercise, Paul. I'm also grateful for the 24"scale permutation" studies from your Music Masters course. I feel it's brought me to a higher level of control. Now if I could only start hitting the right strings a little more often....
