Not to my knowledge. I have a 61 number made in 1956.

No. My 6120 is #3940x and according to Edward Ball, who wrote the book on 6120s, it was the first guitar of the last batch (usually 50; sometimes 25) of 6120s for 1960. Gretsch used several numbering sequence schemes over the years. I would refer you to Ball's book or else Jay Scott's reference book on all things Gretsch. The first 6120s would have been part of a sequence that started in the 1xxxxs and would have run into (guessing here) the 40000s or 50000s. By 1962, the 6120 was a rounded double cutaway with painted f-holes. _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |

The first two numbers are: 94. That’s where the confusion comes in.

Back, again. The 94 is probably one of the newer imports.
Just a guess, however.

Yes, it’s made in Japan, that’s correct. My first one I bought around 1961 but when I was sent to Vietnam in January, 1966 I sold it. I searched for one for many years when I got back and finally found one in the early 90’s but I don’t remember the year.Geo |
