I'll be on Oahu from Dec 3 till Dec 10 and if there's some real deal Hawaiian steel being played at a restaurant, club or other event I'd like to check it out.

I don't think Alan Akaka is gigging regularly like he used to at Dukes. They occasionally do steel guitar showcases at various locations but a lot of those are virtual anyway lately.

Bobby Ingano likewise, not sure if he's got a regular spot. He used to play at Dots in Wahiawa (central Oahu) but I think Dots closed down.

Steve Cheney would regularly play with the Polynesian Cultural Center...might have to spring for their lu'au, up on the windward side near La'ie. But if interested I would contact them to confirm.

Greg Sardinha's website lists some things...but this all may be prepandemic:

There's Kapono Lopes and Jeff Au Hoy, not found anything about when and where they play, if at all.

When I went, the only steel guitar I encountered on Waikiki was my own. And even then, a local came up and insisted, very friendly, that I was playing "slack key"!

I'm sure it exists, but it is exceedingly rare these days, sadly.
