I spoke with Ross Shafer at Sierra Steel Guitars about my design called "The Candy cane bell crank", because I designed it from a Sierra bell crank.
Here's a drawing I made 20 or so years ago and an explanation.
Please PM me if you would like to use this idea, maybe adapted to a different bell crank:

Interesting idea but to return the rod to the upper position might not be so easy. Maybe?

It's all in the lubrication. No screeching of aluminum.

I can see a push forward and the rod drops under gravity. But getting it back requires finding the right rod and pushing up along with the bellcrack at the same time

It's an interesting idea but Ross Shafer's Sierra bell cranks don't have slots! Mr. Green I just back out the tuning nut with a few quick turns. Not as fast as your invention, but it works. Smile
