From the 1994 Smoky Mountain Jamboree, Knoxville, TN USA

One of the most under rated players of all time. Stu Basore could pick with the best of them.

Enjoy this rare video.

Stu Basore - Steel Guitar (RIP)
Dean Baxter - Fiddle (RIP)
Boomer Castleman - Guitar
Boogie Sherrard - Guitar (RIP)
Roy Rosetta - Piano
Bass (I forgot the name, so someone let me know)
Mac McCarthy - Drums
Rob Parker - Vocal (RIP)
Stoney Stoneceipher - Show Producer (RIP)

Enjoy and please comment.

Stu was a surprise experience for me. His playing was both tasty and exciting and different from the rest. We really enjoyed his show. Those were wonderful days at the steel shows.

It's funny, I've always known of him but never heard him until this video. Thanks Bill!

Stu was always one of my favorite players! I always thought of him as the nicest and one of the most versatile players, too. His style blended old and new, and he was one of the few players who wasn't afraid to throw in a Speedy West lick now and then. (Speedy was one of his early favorites). I first met him in 1963 when he went with Kitty Wells, and saw him often at Sunset Park. And whenever he was nearby, I went to see him. He went with Ray Price in 1966, and when Ray was playing in the area, I even asked Stu if he'd like to stay at my house, and he did! He was just that kind of guy, funny, easy to get along with, and very helpful to me. I was shocked when he passed away in 2018, and I'll always miss his smiling face and unique style and sound, a lot of which I've emulated over the years.

Stu appeared in the 1965 film "Second Fiddle To A Steel Guitar" (playing my old Fender 1000 pedal steel), and he also appeared in the 1975 Robert Altman film "Nashville". His session playing is heard on many records, including Dolly Parton's "Jolene", and Barbi Benton's "Brass Buckles".

Here's a song with one of my favorite rides that he did with Bobby Wright:

And here's another song he did with Jean Shephard, simple but commercial and memorable backup:

And here's Stu with Kitty and the band in 1965:
