Does anyone have any idea where I can find a replacement cover for the changer and pickup mount on a 1974 LDG I'm rebuilding? A previous owner drilled four screw holes in the existing cover between the pickup and the neck...for what purpose I do not know. The screws that are in the cover plate are not attached to anything. The existing plate is useable but I'd prefer not to have the screws.
Any suggestions? |

Finding that tail plate may be difficult. You can take it to a welder that does aluminum and get them welded and then sanded and buffed. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Yes a good Tig welder, could make those holes disappear. A bad welder could ruin it forever just as quick! |

That's really not a cover, but the main changer housing. You could also remove those (round head?) screws and countersink the holes, and install flat-head screws or rivets. That would be a lot less noticeable.
You could even make a little Sho~Bud sticker to cover the holes! |

Put a mini Wall Drug sticker over the holes.

Yeah that is a casted Tail-piece that is made with a mixture NOT duplicated, unless Michael Yahl at www.psgparts.com has made one or has one...check with him. I'll go look in my parts bin to see if I have one. It is the mount for the axle of the Changer fingers....THAT IS A MAJOR part of the sound....so don't substitute that in any way.
Finding one will also be tricky as no worker at ShoBud ever carried around a tape-measure..ha....so the pre-drilled holes will be close to being a perfect fit)line up perfect with neck.
Ok; I'm going to look within an hour.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I've been in contact with Jeff at Show Pro and he has a method of closing the holes in the changer plate that doesn't involve welding. That will allow me to utilize the original plate. Thanks again! |
