Jerry Byrd's "Steelin' the Blues" played with consummate musical feel and groove by Chris Scruggs.

Very nice! What an excellent musician Chris is. What tuning you think?

C6th, like Jerry's original. Whether E on top or G on top, I'm not sure.

Last that I knew of Chris was playing
E, C, A, G, E, C# A, A, (bass) on his C6. He could have changed tunings . that was a few years back. Love his steel playing. Talented cat.

How many start a solo with a couple of behind the bar bends? That whole break was really tasty and bluesy with a tinge of jazz. I also like the wide variety of registers he uses--low to high in a single run. Super cool. I like to think that as a multi-instrumentalist, steel guitar is his real love.

Agree, Scott, and that cool jump blues-approved unison lick.

I try to catch everything Chris does with guitar and lap steel. He has the magic touch.

Anyone else been sitting at home and watching this over and over to try and learn it? He's one of the best, and one of the nicest people too.

I've watched and worked on many of the videos that Chris has posted on you tube. He is a stellar player!! I wish he would do a course for Paul Franklins MMM. (Modern Music Masters)

Maybe, if enough of us beg him, he would tab this out and offer a group Zoom lesson, or something...

Chris seems to stay pretty busy playing around Nashville. He's also on the road with Marty Stuart a lot. He may not have the time(??) He is a member here and posts pretty frequently . Perhaps he will see this.

I recently inquired with MMM about the possibility of a camp with some non pedal players they responded. (Cut and Pasted below)

Hi Gary-

Thanks for getting in touch!

No plans for that this year, sorry. I think it's likely something we will address next year. This year's main focus is on the pedal steel legends we are getting together. We'd like to do some non-pedal classes....something like a Chris Scruggs clinic would be amazing, no doubt.

Thanks,
Tom at MMM

I think Chris is more of a "you have the video, listen and watch what I do" kind of guy. BUT a lesson in general would be great!
