Back to the future, indeed!

Congratulations to both Kelcy and Darin in their new endeavor and I wish them both great success! I've known about the possibility of this happening for a while now and am happy that it's finally become public knowledge. Kelcy and I have become good friends over the last couple of years and I really admire his attitude and enthusiasm, for which we will all benefit. I will continue to provide them both with any support that I can lend.

Well Lynn, if it hadn't have been for guys like you, Billy Knowles, Clem Schmitz, Mike Scaggs and one or two others, great and high quality servicing and renovation of existing Emmons guitars would not have taken place. It's great that the Emmons name will be taken from the ashes and resurrected to the production quality that Buddy first envisaged. His name will live on through the new company.

Will you guys be using CNC machining as part of the manufacturing?

I'll pop in and answer this as I've been on the inside "information track" fo some time now

Yes. virtually all the mechanics, structural components etc will be produced with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment to ensure consistency. The computer programming tolerances are so tight that there are virtually no differences between any two parts.

And Kelcey & Darin are not "reinventing the wheel". These are not "updated" instruments with any modifications. The only thing "modern" is the use of CNC equipment so each guitar is a virtual clone of every other. And from what I understand for the moment all the guitars will be black. Black guitars sound better, right? Laughing

These guitars are "1965 wraparound push pulls" made using modern manufacturing methods. From what Kelcey has told me more detailed information will be forthcoming as they expand the website.

So many people had been calling and emailing them because of "rumor central" they wanted to get information released, but made the smart decision to wait until all production capabilities, licensing and legal stuff details were in order. Too many companies have made the mistake of "pulling the trigger" and announcing "business operations" before they could actually handle orders - or manufacture anything. And that never works out.

Kelcey and Darin did not make that mistake and waited until they wee fully ready to make/sell/deliver instruments.

Appreciate the info Jim….it sure sounds like Kelsey & Darin have taken the time to set a firm foundation for this “Emmons Revival”….It’s good to know they have consulted with folks like you and several of our Forum Brothers who knows the history and mechanics of Emmons. I’ve never owned an Emmons BUT this may work out…😉

Great news but I'll have to pass this one up, got a Franklin, EMCI, & a new MSA Legend. I'm 72 and my steel days are coming to a slow crawl. No more playing out, besides my main hobby now are Classic Cars, got a 66 GTO & 69 Camaro, both frame off restorations.
You can't beat these "Steel Machines."

Are they using castings (like the original guitars), or will they be using machined aluminum billets and plate?

Donny,

Everything will be made to the specs of the original, much of the past year has been spent in sourcing castings that are suitable for the purpose. While the material will be exactly the same, all of the castings will be finished with CNC machining to ensure consistency equal or greater than(more on this later...😉) to contemporary instruments.

I was wondering the same thing. Cast and billet are pretty different. If I understand correctly it’s fantastic news that you guys will be using cast and finishing with CNC.
