Topic: Peavey Pots: Are they conductive plastic? Carbon? |

Hi Everyone,
Can anybody tell me if the volume pots and tone controls Peavey used in their amps conductive plastic or carbon? (Example: LTD 400, NV 400, Musician, Deuce, etc.)
I'm guessing they were conductive plastic but not sure.
Can anybody give me the answer?

| Don, not sure but I have a couple that I changed and can open up and look. My guess would be plastic. I will report back later today. |

Don. They have no carbon brush. Appears to be a plastic wafer with a brass wiper. This was from a Nashville 1000 gain pot.

That's actually a carbon pot. They use a metal wiper on the carbon arc that is on the phenolic base.

| Michael, thanks for the extra information. I couldn't find the actual spec on it to reply properly. I have cleaned these with good results using Radio Shack tuner cleaner with lube. Still available on their website. |

I just cleaned my Nashville 400 pots with 99% Anhydrous alcohol after reading a post on the subject. Guess I will have to go back in and put some sewing machine oil in the pots for lube (note: a small amount only).
That said, does anyone use TriFlow to lube pots?
Did Peavey always use carbon pots or was this only for specific applications?

They always used carbon pots. The cost of the plastic film would be too prohibitive. The price difference between an Alpha/CTS carbon pot and a plastic film, like Bourns, is high.
