That is a "Barrel Tuner" looks like it is set on a rod that is pulling the finger towards it and will hit it half way on the full distance; so it will give a feel stop half way for that finger. That barrel is two pieces; the back part is affixed to rod by set screw; and the front half is length/spring and can be turned to shorten or lengthen the distance of when it's hit. "Tunable Half Stop".

Thanks Aha! that's what I suspected but I don't have a "bunk" to work on it so I have never seen it in action.
I guess I will build one. I keep waiting for the "gotcha " but it just plays on. I thought it might be weak somewhere but so far so good. This will do fine (-;
