Topic: stand to play standing up? |

I know this thread is out there, but I haven't had any luck finding it. Where can I find a stand that puts the lap steel so I don't have to sit on stage?

| There are a few options. A lot of folks recommend Deluxe 34 stands. I've always preferred a keyboard stand. |

I have a couple of Deluxe 34 stands, and they're great. Use them for lap steels and for acoustic steels.

For my Ric B6, I use a rig I made from a crash cymbal stand. For my 8 string, I use a $20 scissor type, keyboard stand. Works just fine.

Beautiful Gibsons! I imagine you swap them around for all sorts of tuning combinations, not to mention the different character each particular instrument... That is super cool.
What is your amp setup like when you're running two steels like that? |

My lovely wife got me a Morrell Lap Steel Stand for Christmas.
Note the clamp on the right and support on the left.

Warning: The shipping box has a picture of the stand on it. If you send it as a gift the recipient will know what it is at the front door. Happened to me.

Thanks, Bruce. I like the double stands alot.
As for tunings, on my 6-string instruments, my base tunings are sixth-based tunings -- both the common C6 (E-C-A-G-E-C) and a lower-pitched G6 (B-G-E-D-B-G), using the same intervals. From there I can tweak a string or two -- either up or down -- to achieve B11 & F#11, A6 & E6, D9 & A9, and C6/A7 & G6/E7, repectively.

Thank you, Joe. The black Century and white Ultratone are both stock, with the exception of the jacks and jackplates, and the tuner buttons on the Century. The blue Century Deluxe and blonde Ultratone are both rescues, with brand-new tuners and electronics.
I generally run the two separate instruments into a relatively inexpensive Morley A/B/Y box:
Then into a small Fender tube amp. My favorite amps for lap steel are three Fender silverfaces from the '70s: Champ, Musicmaster Bass, and Princeton Reverb. I'm also a big fan of the modern Fender Pro Juniors. |

| My National Dynamic has three legs. Does anyone use those to play standing up? I never play standing, so I never thought of trying. I just recently took the legs off to try it as an actual lap lap-steel, and so far I prefer it to sitting using the legs. |
