I guess pedal harp players make the same statements as some pedal steel players..."It's not more popular because it's so expensive! If it weren't for that, we'd have lots more pedal harp players and pedal harp music." Laughing

(New concert-grand pedal harps start at around $10,000 and go up to around $50,000.)

I had to write a harp part once which was atonal a lot of the time. You really have to go through it note by note to check that the changes you think will work actually do. Luckily I knew the harpist who had just retired from the City of Birmingham Symphony and he kindly checked it over for me so that there were no problems come the rehearsal.

We are lucky - our pedals have only two positions and don't have to be unlocked and locked every time we touch them!
