Noticed on the Midwest Country TV program that Ely plays a Fender single neck probably an 800. All Fender models had volume control on the neck. He has a volume pedal. Did that require any unique conversion ?

Are you saying John's guitar doesn't have a volume control on board or that he uses a pedal as well.

It would be pretty simple to bypass the volume and tone controls and wire the pickup to the jack. Most players just leave the volume and tone on full and use a foot pedal.

Same think with lap and console players who use a volume pedal (or volume/tone).

Some Sho~Buds also had an on board volume control.

There is nothing unusual about using a volume pedal along with the volume/tone knobs on a steel guitar. Pre-set the maximum volume and overall tone. Then use the volume pedal, too.
