I did a forum search for this topic and came up empty-handed - If you have a 100 watt amp, what power rated speaker fits best? I've heard it's 1.5, a 100 watt amp should be paired with a 150 watt speaker. Is the 1.5 a good rule of thumb in steel guitar amp world? I know I could put a 300 watt speaker with a 100 watt amp but I'm more interested in lower powered speakers, just don't want to go too low.
I know this is a complicated question when you get into peak power, impedance, etc. so please try to keep responses on my level - low.
thanks for sharing your expertise. _________________ Show Pro SD10 guitars

Good question, some investigation of how much up power manufacturing does when they select a speaker for a particular amp. Also as you probably know, takes more power on bass notes, conversely a lot of mids and highs may get by with a lower rated speaker. Years ago use to put a light bulb in series with the speaker in juke boxes to clip bass notes and extend the life of the cheap low rated speakes I could barely afford or bought on sale. Hope someone has a clear answer to your question. Like to know myself what is a good rule of thumb. |
