Claude Brownell lowered the Eddie Alkire tuning by a fourth (high string B instead of E) and put it on a custom-made long scale steel. He was a very dynamic performer, standing and singing as he played. I've digitized his CD:

Claude joined the forum in 1999 and passed away on 2002. I'm so happy to have met him. See

Wow! That is a big sound from a really big steel. He sounds like a real gentleman who loved the songs he played and sang. Thank you bOb for this treat.

Thank you so much for posting that special picture of Claude. I had not seen it with that instrument he had custom made. Some of us wonder what happened to his steel guitar. Also I wonder if it was a fender amp behind him? I loved seeing him perform at the smoky mountain jamboree that was posted online. So nice that you have that CD endorsed by him to you. I am certain that is a special treasure for you. Additionally thank you for posting those 2002 responses to his passing. That was before my time on the forum.

Spring 1997 I saw him at a Steel Show in New Smyrna Beach Florida. First I had heard of him. He put on a good show on his portion.
