Not sure the exact age of this beautiful guitar, but it has been rebuilt by Caladesi Guitars and ready for a new owner. It does have a Gibson pickup and several people identified this as a Gibson lapsteel when it's original condition was posted about a year ago. It needed major surgery. The nut and bridge are Caladesi's solid brass nickel planted design. The fretboard is a burl maple and formed the focal center piece of the guitar. The control plate is polished stainless steel and is custom built. The tuners and electronics are all new and the pickup is a Bill Lawrence Circuit Board pickup. These pickups are valued at between $150 and $200. Price for the guitar is $575 plus shipping and comes with a hard shell case for $50 extra.

What did that thing start out as in its previous life?
BR-6? Royaltone?
Is the body mahogany? Maple? |

Thanks, Dan. Seasons greetings! I suspect your Gibson was originally a sunburst BR-6, which was built with either the wide oval (racetrack) non-adjustable pickup, or after 1951 a P-90 with adjustable polepieces. Most likely it is indeed a solid plank of mahogany. The only Gibson lap steels that were equipped with the PAF-style humbucker were the 1957 - 1959 blonde Ultratones, which were also mahogany, and they sing like Pavarotti (or Dickie Betts). This guitar has a Bill Lawrance Circuit Board Pickup that is worth between $150 and $200 dollars.

I can't say if that is an original Gibson lap steel. Many here are much more knowledgable than me on that subject. That pickup is one of the "Bill Lawrence circuit board pickups."Jazz players tend to like them a lot and they go for 150- 200 on the market. If you want more info on them, drop me an email. I have a lot of info on them. (along with a lot of other pickups)
