Well I'll be dipped! Alum eh? ...learn something every day. I have a couple aluminum parts with broken drills and taps. I'll give this a try. Thanks Gary! 😮

Forgot to mention, I pulled the ball connectors on my A B and C to see how they were. They were fine but took a LOT of torque on those iwth a decently long crescent wrench to get them out and when i did I saw a few aluminum shavings on the threads. So pretty difficult removal for a sheared off one

Yeah, mine was definitely not coming out. Got a replacement pedal and new ball connectors in the post today. Thought it’d be worth it to change them all out just in case.
I suspect this is a one time issue on this guitar, but anytime I’m in a situation where one thing goes it eases my mind to just replace the like parts.

When installing a steel bolt (or the equivalent of that!) in an aluminium (my sp!) casting, I would ALWAYS first coat the thread in some anti-seize compound to assist the eventual removal if/when necessary...if worried about something becoming loose during normal operation, I would ALSO ensure that there was a spring washer added to the recipe..

AND as for removing bolts, etc. in the first place, I cannot stress enough the value of heating up the casting PRIOR to attempting the removal....the ally casting will DEFINITELY start expending before the bolt does....

Playing about with Old Cars for 60 years teaches you a few lessons...

HTH

Cheers,
Peter
