I was a couple of lessons in on my first steel guitar with Tommy Cass when he broke out a Tony Booth record and told me I needed to study this cat Jay Dee Maness, cause he was different than the Nashville guys. I drank from that well often. I had no idea that would lead to a friendship that included him playing on records I produce and producing he and Lloyd Green together for the Sweetheart Tribute record. One of my biggest thrills (and most terrifying) has been playing twin steel with him on several occasions. One of the best ever.

I think those clips of the band outdoors were shot at the parking lot of the Alpine Village in Torrance. Can anyone confirm that? You've got Jay Dee and Steve Duncan, future members of Desert Rose. I don't know how Jay Dee doesn't lose control of his tone bar, with that very light, rolling vibrato, just gorgeous! Hi Peter and Skip, I miss you scoundrels!!

You have been my favorite psg player since Moreno Valley Days when you started playing with Steve on that old Sho-Bud cross over. Time flies for sure.

I have no idea. Have tried to locate him over the years but no luck. I am surprised I can even remember that far back. You were a young kid then. 🙂
