Hopefully it is okay to mention that the great american writer Larry McMurtry has passed on. Lonesome Dove, The Last Picture Show, he was always one of my favorite american writers.

He was also the father of the great singer songwriter James McMurtry.

Very sad, Last Picture Show and Texasville, the sequel are two of my all time faves.

Looks like the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree, I pay special attention every time I hear James on the radio. I have many of the movies from Larry which I love and would hope James is a pedal steel fan, his songs are brilliant and his voice is distinctive! Deepest condolences to the family.

Timely post. As it happens I only discovered that Lonesome Dove was part of a four book series last week and I'm deep into Dead Man's Walk which is every bit as engrossing as Lonesome Dove was for me when I was a kid. I've yet to read something he's written I didn't like.
