I had to upgrade to Windows 10 for work and purchased a Surface Pro 7.
Anybody have any recommendations on resources and apps for recording, mixing,
Or anything else I should be aware of?

Any software you buy will assume you have Win10 by now anyway. I'm no expert, so I'm qualified to answer. When I upgraded my life didn't change, as if by magic.

My old work computer, Windows 7, has been working flawlessly, but we got all the warning notices from Microsoft about no more “support” (as if they’ve ever given me effing support), and then my admin’s computer went blue screen a few days later, so I chickened out, and bought the Surface Pro. I was warned not to try and convert my old computer to “10” as I would lose a couple weeks of my life, and never convert all my files.
Hence the new Surface Pro. But I hear rumors they do cool things. I’m hoping to find out that includes music applications.

I rather missed the point that you have a touch screen.
I am also interested to hear what programs benefit from that, particularly a DAW.

When Windows 10 first came out I read a few posts where "somebody" tried to upgrade an older computer to Windows 10 and it didn't go well.

This laptop shipped with Windows Vista. When Windows 7 was released I was eager to upgrade this computer because I never was comfortable with Vista.

I resisted upgrading to Windows 10 as long as I could. I finally upgraded and never looked back.

You can do a "fresh" Windows 10 install and all your data will be erased.

OR:

You can select to "retain files and settings". Use that setting to upgrade and you likely will not lose any data.

For the most part the biggest difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10 is 7 calls software programs "programs" while 10 calls software programs "apps".

One big difference is past operating systems had distinct names like 3.11, 95, 98, XP, Vista, 7 and so on. In addition each named operating system received support and updates for a specific time period.

Now, all Microsoft Windows operating systems are named Windows 10. However a new version of Windows 10 is released about every six months. To distinguish which Windows 10 you mean during conversations you also need to provide the version number.

Important to know: Each Windows 10 version receives 18 months of updates and support. Eighteen months after a version is released there will be no security updates.

Thanks for the insights on ‘10’ Jim.
I resist all the updates on all my devices and guess I’ll have to surrender and be a good ‘updater’.

So far the tablet function of this new device seems to have a lot of possibilities with the pen gizmo.
